Caitlin & Phil: A Hintonburg Engagement Session in Ottawa

Caitlin and Phil’s engagement session took place exactly where it should have: in Hintonburg, the Ottawa neighbourhood they actually call home. There’s something I love about building an engagement session around the place a couple already knows best — no scouting a “pretty” location an hour away, just their own streets, their own bikes, and their own kind of everyday joy.

Bikes, Wine, and a Whole Lot of Hintonburg Charm

We started the session the way Caitlin and Phil actually spend their evenings — hopping on their bikes and cruising through Hintonburg with a bottle of wine along for the ride (yes, somehow both of those things happened at once, and somehow it worked perfectly). It’s exactly the kind of candid, low-key energy I love building an Ottawa engagement session around: less posing, more living.

A Pop-Up Photoshoot on the Tennis Court

From there, we wandered over to a tennis court nearby for a completely different kind of photo — a little more playful, a little more graphic, with all those clean lines doing some of the work for us. It’s one of my favourite things about shooting engagement sessions in Ottawa: there’s no shortage of unexpected backdrops once you start looking past the obvious ones.

What I loved most was how comfortable Caitlin and Phil were the entire time. When your engagement photos happen in your own neighbourhood, doing the things you actually do, the whole thing just feels like another Friday night. By the time we got to the tennis court, it barely felt like a photoshoot, it felt like hanging out with two people who clearly like each other a whole lot, which, honestly, is the whole point.
