I’ve said this before, but my favourite thing about being a wedding photographer in Ottawa is meeting people who feel like friends, and friends that I have had for years already, rather than minutes. This was 100% my experience with Katie & Kyle. When I met them to chat about my wedding packages, and their vision for their wedding, what was meant to be a 30 minute chat ended up being two hours over drinks and about 10 minutes of that time spent talking weddings. Pretty immediately I think all three of us knew this was a match.
Fast forward to their wedding in August. Katie & Kyle were getting married at the GORGEOUS Le Peaches and Cream in Low, Quebec. Seriously, this venue is so so stunning and less than hour out of downtown Ottawa. From a massive house on the property where both you and your partner can get ready without risking seeing each other, to sprawling hills which make for a gorgeous backdrop to your ceremony and for your portraits, to a private dock where you and your partner can have an intimate first look with just the two of you (and me your photographer but you won’t even know I am there) to a gorgeous reception/cocktail hour space with crisp white walls that is the perfect palette for your decor dreams. Seriously, Le Peaches and Cream is a stunning venue, and one of my top 5 near Ottawa.
Katie & Kyle started by both of them getting ready in the main house, and then met later for the sweetest first look by the lake (where Katie also showed us her bridal crocs). One of the cutest things ever was as Katie got into the UTV to head back up to the main property for the ceremony, Kyle said her “well I don’t want to be apart from you now” (because there wasn’t room for us all to go back together). Seriously, the friggen cutest.
The ceremony overlooked the Quebec hills and their ceremony was filled with equal amounts of laughter and tears. Katie & Kyle’s two friends serenaded them and their guests and honestly, no dry eyes (including yours truly). Post ceremony, the guests headed back for cocktail hour, and we continued with family portraits, wedding party portraits and portraits with just the two of them.
A note for the decor. Fiona, from Fiona Lau Events, absolutely crushed it with creating a retro vibe with their tabletop decor. Seriously, the amount of colour was like “a citrus-fruit exploded” (how Katie described the reception space). When the sun started to set, and we had an absolutely beautiful golden glow in the space, it was just beyond what words can describe. When the reception began, just like a citrus-fruit explosion, it was like an explosion of love and admiration for Katie & Kyle from their friends and family. The most heart felt speeches, and a surprise performance from their friends singing “Seasons of Love” from the musical rent, it was truly the most touching reception.
The night ended with Katie & Kyle dancing the night away, singing show tunes and ABBA, all with the help of a bubble machine. Katie & Kyle, it was more than an honour to have captured your special day for you both, as not only did I gain new friends out of you both, but also a long lasting memory of the most gorgeous wedding.
I could probably say more about their wedding, but as Katie said to me when I was struggling to find the motivation to write any blogs “these photos speak for themselves”.
